Background of department/role

We are excited to be recruiting a Senior Quality Officer (Governance) to join our recently established Quality Assurance and Enhancement team. This team consolidates academic quality assurance functions from across the University, playing a central role in ensuring effective academic governance and a rigorous, responsive quality assurance infrastructure. The team is pivotal in ensuring the University meets its obligations to external bodies, such as the Office for Students and Professional, Statutory and Regulatory Bodies, and stays current with sector best practice in quality assurance.

What you'll be doing

The Senior Quality Officer (Governance) is a senior administrative leadership role in the Quality Assurance and Enhancement team. In this role, you will manage the effective functioning of the Academic Governance structure and committees, acting as Secretary/Clerk to senior committees and coordinating consistent committee support. You will maintain the University Register of Policy and Procedures, working with academic and professional services colleagues to ensure that policies and procedures are both responsive to the University’s needs and effective in practice.

You will draft key reports, briefings and policy documentation, particularly in relation to external regulation, conducting further analysis, planning and research where necessary. You will offer advice and support to internal and external colleagues regarding quality assurance and academic governance. Collaborating with senior staff in Quality Assurance and Enhancement and across the institution, you will facilitate and contribute to the submission, scrutiny and completion of proposals emanating from the committee structures. You will manage a small team of administrators who work across the department.

Who are we looking for?

You will bring senior administrative experience, particularly within the context of Further or Higher Education, with a strong background in Quality and Standards settings. You will have extensive knowledge of governance and academic structures. Additionally, you will have a proven track record of engaging with quality audits, reviews and evaluations, utilising extensive data to inform your decisions.

You will possess excellent organisational and problem-solving skills, demonstrated through your ability to work independently and on your own initiative. You will be adept at prioritising work, identifying problems and formulating and implementing effective solutions. You will have the ability to synthesise information, produce comprehensive reports and make recommendations for senior colleagues. Outstanding interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills are essential, along with the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external staff at all levels.

A commitment to accuracy and proven attention to detail is crucial, as is discretion and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information. You will have a track record in collaborative working within a complex organisation and have a clear understanding of the University’s external regulatory requirements in relation to Quality Assurance. In all areas, the post holder will be responsible for ensuring they align activity with external regulatory requirements (including those from OfS, DfE, CMA and relevant PSRBs) and University policy.

How will you work?

We are committed to supporting flexible methods of working wherever possible, and this role is Hybrid. Campus attendance will vary on a day-to-day basis and across the year but must purposefully align with the needs of our students, staff, and stakeholders.

It is expected that the post holder will normally be on campus at least three days a week; the work location will be determined by the tasks/activities being undertaken.
