Birmingham Community Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust provides high quality, accessible and responsive community and specialist services within Birmingham and the West Midlands. We deliver over 100 clinical services, out in people’s homes and in over 300 hospitals, health centres and clinics. We provide services for adults, children, people with learning disabilities, those with rehabilitation needs and also dental services.

The post holder will join other psychiatrists for people with intellectual disability who work with integrated multidisciplinary teams to meet the specialist healthcare needs of the population of approximately 1.1 million.



To support and develop the delivery of medical education to medical students within Birmingham Community Trust Learning Disabiltty Services .

To develop competence in medical education and specifically to develop teaching skills

To be present day to day to guide students in their learning experiences, deliver small group bedside and seminar teaching, and participate in the day each week devoted to workshops and lectures.

To develop teaching materials and enhance learning within the trust facilities

Act as a role model and first point of contact for the student body during their time in Birmingham Community.

Contribute and participate in the assessment process for all Medical Students : case presentations at the end of each teaching week and summative assessments, likely to be OSCEs at the end of the academic year.

To provide clinical care to patients through out-patient clinics, domiciliary visits and MDT reviews. The main responsibilities to include undertaking psychiatric assessments, arranging appropriate investigations, supporting the implementation of treatment plans in collaboration with the MDT.

To carry out a full range of mental state examinations, medical assessment and treatment duties under the supervising Consultant.
