JOB SUMMARY:
The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) is responsible for delivering comprehensive healthcare services to the residents in the carehome. This role is crucial in managing complex emotional needs, including behaviour that challenges and personality disorders, ensuring care is both effective and reflective of organisational values.
As a member of the Care team, you will be required to work in accordance with the shifts and rota in place within the Home.
The HCA will work within their responsibilities to be able to demonstrate safe, competent, decision-making and deliver expert care, maintaining patient confidentiality at all times. The role will involve independent and autonomous working as well as working cohesively as part of both the individual teams and the wider Practice team. The HCA will be supported by their fellow care colleagues and

EXPERIENCE AND KNOWLEDGE:
• Whilst no previous experience of working in a health care setting as full training will be given
• It is essential that you are compassionate, caring and have a desire to work in a care environment, where you will make a real difference to our resident’s lives.

DUTIES TO INCLUDE:
• wash and dress patients
• serve meals and help to feed patients
• help people to move around
• make beds
• make patients feel comfortable
• monitor patients' conditions by taking temperatures, pulse, respirations and weight

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
• Whilst promoting independence, assist residents with their personal care needs, for example support with washing, bathing, showering, shaving, cleaning teeth and getting dressed.
• Assist residents during mealtimes in accordance with their care plan, this may be providing physical assistance as well as gentle encouragement. Monitoring and recording of intake of both fluid and food and reporting any concerns to the nurse in charge along with completing all food and fluid charts and any other daily monitoring records as requested. Ensuring continuity of care to most vulnerable adults at nights, evenings and weekends is a special responsibility.
• To report to the person in charge any changes in an individual resident’s condition and any other relevant matter and to understand, contribute to and be familiar with individual person-centred care plan and report any changes to the nurse in charge of the shift.
• To report any accidents or unexplained injuries immediately to the person in charge for both staff and residents alike and ensuring that the appropriate documentation is completed in a timely manner.
• Adopt a person-centred approach when carrying out duties, ensuring engagement with residents as appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with colleagues as part of a team to ensure that our residents are cared for in a kind and supportive way.
• To ensure that all people are treated with compassion, kindness, dignity and respect and are protected from abuse and avoidable harm. Any concerns are reported to the person in charge.
• Inform the Manager of any compliments, complaints or concerns made by a resident, visitor, or member of staff, in a timely way.
• Always consider residents’ capacity to make decisions to ensure decisions are taken in the residents’ best interest whilst respecting their human rights.
• Understand and promote respectful, kind, and compassionate behaviour with colleagues, residents and all who visit the home and to communicate professionally and warmly with visitors and relatives, and other health care professionals.
• Working with colleagues, ensuring residents’ care, treatment and support achieves good outcomes and promotes good quality of life.
• Ensure that the support you provide is organised in a way in which meets the needs of our residents.
• To be aware of the need for safety always and never to leave equipment unattended, reporting any repair or restoration, as well as faulty items of equipment to the home manager so to ensure that all equipment is maintained in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
• Ensure that all moving and handling tasks are completed in accordance with the resident’s care plan and in accordance with your training.
• To take a role as champion / lead role for a specific area of care, e.g., dignity, infection control, continence, or oral health.

HEALTH AND SAFETY
• To be responsible for your own health and Safety and that of anybody else who may be affected by your acts or omissions.
• To complete risk assessments as required.
• Promote safe working practice in the care home.

RECORD KEEPING
• At the time of providing care, make clear and accurate notes of the care provided on the appropriate company documentation and in residents care plans.

POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
• Be familiar with and ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
• Report any breach or policy / procedure that could be detrimental to colleagues, residents, or visitors to the Home to the Home Manager/Person in Charge.
• Ensure compliance with all aspects of Health & Safety policies and procedures, Fire Regulations and moving and handling policies and practices.
• Undertake core training and development in accordance with induction and renewal policies. Ensure that training is kept up to date and renewed in accordance with company policy.

COMMUNICATION
• Discuss the alms and objectives of specialist care for the most vulnerable adults with staff, manager, resident and relatives.
• Report any significant changes and or deterioration In residents to the Home Manager
• Provide comfort and company, on a one-to-one basis, for residents who are unable to participate in any form of activity at end of life stages if appropriate.

TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT
• Training on the use of appropriate equipment.
• Complete mandatory induction and training courses
