Help change a young life for the better – come and lead Orkney’s Fostering, Adoption and Kinship team!

Of course, we need you to have the relevant managerial skills and experience of fostering and adoption but, most of all, we want you to have a caring ethos – not just for our children and young people, but the team too. If staff feel supported, then the onward care being provided to some of our most vulnerable members of our communities is the best it can be.

In addition to a supportive working environment, we can also offer flexible working, emotional support, reasonable caseload levels, clear career progression routes and good IT and administration support.

Significant and relevant experience of working within a children and families setting is essential. The post also requires a relevant professional qualification/diploma (Degree or other qualification accepted by the Scottish Social Services Council to register as a Social Worker in Scotland) and over 5 years previous relevant experience, in addition to registration with the Scottish Social Services Council as a Social Worker.

You'll show potential ability in leadership and management and will be willing to take on the challenge of managing a developing team and service. Strong communication, interpersonal skills and ability to develop policy are all key to the role.

You should be able to travel efficiently and effectively between work locations within Orkney to meet the operational requirements of the Service.

This post is subject to Level 2 Disclosure Check with PVG for working in a regulated role with children and protected adults.

For further information please contact Gemma Williams, Interim Service Manager, Children and Families (Authority Wide Services), on 01856 873535, extension 2611 or email: gemma.williams@orkney.gov.uk.

Closing Date: 23:59 on Sunday 3 August 2025
