Your Role
At Stockport Council we’re committed to making Stockport a climate friendly and sustainable borough, a borough for everyone and a place to build confident and empowered communities.
As an Apprentice Associate Project Manager, you’ll play an important part in our ambition to develop transport infrastructure that is green, inclusive, resilient, and safe.
The role will be based within the Strategic Infrastructure (Capital Delivery) Service, and you’ll receive both on and off the job training to undertake all aspects of project management: assisting in preparing project scopes and business case documents; producing project plans and programmes; attending meetings; undertaking report writing; helping manage and monitor project costs as well as a variety of other disciplines associated with project management.
About You
We are looking for someone who wants to make a real difference in their community, someone with a keen interest in place-making, the built environment or engineering.
You’ll need to enjoy working as part of a team, have great interpersonal and communication skills as well as the drive and commitment to see projects delivered successfully.
We need someone with strong literacy and numeracy skills and the ability to analyse problems and come up with creative, practical solutions. You’ll need to have good time management skills and be able to show commitment to your formal training as well as a readiness to learn from the teams you’re working in.
About Us
Stockport Council has just been named Local Authority of the Year at the MJ Awards, and you will be joining a committed, supportive, and diverse team of staff, consultants, and partner organisations. We are proud of what we achieve together, delivering sustainable infrastructure schemes which will shape the future of transport in Stockport.
Your learning journey starts from day one, and you’ll be working in project teams, surrounded by experienced professionals who are committed to supporting you at every step of that journey. Our past apprentices have gone on to progress their careers securing permanent project management positions within the council or elsewhere.
At Stockport Council we are one ambitious team on a mission to create opportunities for everyone who lives, works and spends time in the borough. Working at Stockport Council means contributing to one of the most thriving towns in the North. We’re keen to recruit people with the right values and behaviours that can help us ensure our workplace values are at the heart of everything we do.
We are proud to be recognised under the Good Employment Charter as an organisation committed to the wellbeing of our colleagues. As members of the charter, we have been recognised as a great place to work for all colleagues and pledge to pay the real living wage, engage staff in key decisions and endorse fair and flexible working conditions.

As part of the Guaranteed Assessment Scheme you will therefore be guaranteed to be shortlisted for Assessment if you meet both the criteria for the scheme and the essential job role criteria.
