Summary
Our purpose is to improve the wellbeing of children and young people within Staffordshire, so that every child has the opportunity to be safe, happy and healthy, part of a strong community and achieves their potential.
An opportunity has arisen for a Commissioning Officer to join the friendly, hardworking and committed Prevention and Wellbeing Commissioning Team, within the Children and Families Directorate.
You will be contributing to an exciting new area of work to develop and embed a whole system approach to prevention, and working to increase the proportion of children and young people experiencing good mental health and emotional wellbeing.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is keen to develop their knowledge of children and young people’s emotional health and wellbeing, can understand and interpret data and how this is used to inform programme development and delivery.
This is a hybrid role, with an expectation of being available to work from the office / attend face to face meetings as required.
This position is fixed term from August 2025 to 31 March 2026, with the potential to extend to 31 March 2027.

Main ResponsibilitiesYou will be:
- Collaborating with a wide range of partners to progress the local children and young people’s mental health system improvement programme of work, to improve emotional health and wellbeing outcomes for children and young people.
- Developing and embedding a whole systems approach to prevention, so that we are reducing the chances of problems arising in the first place, prevent problems from getting worse and reduce demand for statutory and acute services.
- Focus on tackling disparities in wellbeing outcomes for our most vulnerable children and young people.
This post will also include collaborative work to enhance the support that is available to meet the emotional wellbeing needs of children and young people, through a variety of commissioning activities.
The Ideal CandidateYou'll:
- be passionate about improving outcomes for children and young people
- be well organised and proactive
- have great communication skills
- be able to work with a broad range of stakeholders including children, young people and their parents / carers.
Ideally but not essential, you'll also have one of the below
- experience in commissioning, with a strong understanding of commissioning processes and the ability to manage and lead commissioning projects.
- knowledge about the emotional health and wellbeing landscape and the challenges faced by children and young people who may be at greater risk of experiencing poor outcomes because of factors in their lives such as being care experienced, living with SEND.
