Summary

1. To participate in the maintenance service to the highly complex radiotherapy equipment used for treating cancer patients. In particular: linear accelerators, orthovoltage therapy x-ray machines, High Dose Rate after-loading machine and dosimetry equipment. 2. To develop the knowledge and skill to technically interpret reports from radiographers; and to discuss complex aspects of linear accelerator operation with scientists, technologists and manufacturers engineers with regard to fault diagnosis, equipment maintenance and innovative device development and modification. 3. Fault diagnosis and repair: 3.1. To undertake, under supervision, the diagnosis and repair of faults and breakdowns on the above equipment. 4. Planned Preventative Maintenance and Quality Control: 4.1. To assist with maintenance and safety checking of all equipment to ensure compliance with current safety regulations and manufacturers specifications. 4.2. Under supervision to carry out quality control checks on radiotherapy equipment including absolute dose measurements as agreed with radiotherapy physicists. 4.3. To ensure that quality control checks which directly result in radiation dose to the patient are carried out with strict reference to procedures and safety tolerance levels set out in the quality system. 4.4. To maintain accurate and timely documentation of all work carried on radiotherapy equipment. 4.5. To assist clinical scientists to carry out calibration of treatment machine parameters. 5.
