Summary
REPORTS TO: LEAD NURSE ACCOUNTABLE TO: PRACTICE MANAGER Job Summary: To provide Primary care nursing services to patients on our practice list, including the assessment, and advice within the professional competence of the post holder, screening and treatment. Extra training will be provided for any new duties undertaken. The post holder will work in accordance with NMC Code of Conduct and in accordance with practice and local guidelines and protocols. Working in accordance with specific Practice guidelines and protocols, the Practice Nurse will assist the Practice medical team in the provision and delivery of prescribed programmes of patient care. Key Responsibilities To undertake general nursing duties within the nursing team, including: Cervical smears Contraception advice and pill checks Treatment room,( which includes Complex dressings & wound care, post op dressings and suture/clip removal, ring pessary insertion & changes, Injections, non-primary care requested ECGs) minor injury. and any other areas that form part of the LCS. Supporting SMI reviews. Chronic disease management-LTC- Qof. Which will include Respiratory ( Asthma/COPD),Diabetes, Hypertension. To work to practice protocols and guidelines Vaccine/cold chain storage, monitoring, re-stocking, stock rotation and recording for ordering Health promotion and/or education Undertaking specific clinical activities for patients that have been delegated by the GPs Assisting GPs with procedures when required Undertaking Clinical Audit Ensuring that all Infection Control procedures and precautions taken are compliant with the latest guidance. Work within a multi-disciplinary team to deliver an effective service to prevent hospital admissions Routine management of own areas and maintenance of workplace standards. Safe management of sharps procedures including training, use, storage and disposal Health & Safety: The post-holder will implement and lead on a full range of health promotion and manage their own and others health and safety and infection control as defined in the practice Health & Safety policy and the practice Infection Control policy and published procedures.
