Summary

Teaching and Training The appointee is expected to participate in teaching and training of junior staff, medical students and trainees in psychiatry, and to supervise junior medical staff within the specialty. The post holder would be eligible to undertake a formal Training the Trainers course. Job Planning & Appraisal Job Plans are reviewed regularly usually with the supervising consultants Specialty Doctors are required to take part in the annual appraisal process and engage with Revalidation as described in the Trust's Medical Appraisal and Revalidation Policy. Training Opportunities 1. Opportunities to take part in mental health research projects. 2. Attendance at weekly education meetings. 3. Opportunities to undertake service audit, working within a Clinical Governance audit plan. Support is available through the Clinical Governance Committee Convenor and the Clinical Governance facilitator. 4. Specialty doctor peer group meeting to consider professional and work issues. 5. Other educational activities include: Journal club/case conferences Supervision with consultant Research Cambridge offers unrivalled opportunities for research and for collaboration with University Departments. A wide range of research is conducted by the University Department of Psychiatry and by NHS staff, including psychosocial, cognitive, neuroendocrine and psycho-pharmacological studies into depression; epidemiological, molecular biological, neuropathological, neuropsychological and neurochemical studies into Schizophrenia and Alzheimers Disease; psychology; epidemiology and cognitive treatment of appetite disorders; psychosocial aspects of neurological disorders; care of the elderly in the community, evaluation of health services; psychiatric illness in mentally handicapped adolescents; child psychiatry; forensic psychiatry; and history of psychiatry. There is also scope for research and teaching links with the University Department of Psychology and the Institute of Criminology. On Call / Emergency Duties There is no requirement to be involved in on-call rota at this time. So far as it is consistent with the proper discharge of the above duties the post holder undertakes to deputise from time to time for absent colleagues. The post holder undertakes, exceptionally, to perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances. Arrangements for Leave This is arranged by mutual agreement of colleagues and approval of the Consultant / line manager in accordance with standard Trust/NHS regulations. It is essential that six weeks notice be given to allow for proper planning and prevent cancellations of patients' appointments. This includes all forms of leave. Study Leave 30 days / period of 3 years.
