Join our busy Breast Unit at Peterborough City Hospital as a Specialty Doctor to work alongside a dedicated Consultant Team, developing your skills and knowledge and expand your expertise in this speciality.
At North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, we have one of the busiest Breast units within the region providing comprehensive breast care services to a population of around 500,000. The unit disposes of a modern and purpose-built screening unit where our team treats between 350 to 400 new breast cancers each year and performs up to 200 oncoplastic procedures and reconstructions.
You will be a senior breast doctor, who wishes to gain more experience and training in specialist oncoplastic procedures and reconstructive breast surgery. Whilst this is initially advertised as a fixed term contract for 12 months, there may be the option to progress to a substantive position within the team.
We value your experience and support your career. If you are a suitable and experienced Registrar, we can give you independent operating lists when required.
We believe working within the breast speciality to be hard but rewarding requiring a balanced job plan with allocated time for reflection and education. Therefore, we will offer training opportunities and Continuing Medical Education at our teaching facilities at Peterborough City Hospital, or our partner institutions Addenbrookes Hospital and the Clinical School in Cambridge.
As our new Speciality Doctor, you will be responsible and working alongside the Consultants in providing day-to-day care for breast inpatients, follow-up clinics for outpatients and support the service in theatres.
To ensure the continuity of patient care, you will perform additional duties in occasional emergencies and unforeseen circumstances and be available for exceptional irregular commitments outside normal rostered duties.
As an experienced specialist in breast, you will be expected to play a contributory role in current departmental research, audit and in teaching junior doctors and medical students, as well as attending weekly multidisciplinary treatment planning meetings. We will offer you full support and advice.
We are committed to promoting diversity and inclusion in our workforce and encourage applications from people of all backgrounds, with a special focus on welcoming individuals from disabled, Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic (BAME) communities, as well as those from our local area.
In line with our dedication to employee support, we offer a variety of benefits. For more information, please see the attached staff benefits leaflet.
We strive to create a supportive and inclusive workplace where employees feel valued and empowered to excel in their roles. Join us and become part of a team dedicated to making a positive difference in our community.
THE POST: 12-month fixed term contract in the first instance with the possibility of progressing to a substantive role in the team.
This is a whole-time post for a maximum of 40 working hours per week.
You will work under the supervision of Mr S Goh and Mr Mathew in providing prospective and cross-cover for other members of the Breast Team.
There are no general surgical or on-call commitments.
Our Medical team comprises of 7 Consultant Surgeons, 2 Specialty Doctors (including this role), 1 Trust Registrar Doctor, and one rotational FY2 training doctor.
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team comprised of 7 Consultant Breast Surgeons, 6 Oncologists, 3 Radiologists and 4 breast care Nurses. The Unit also has a dedicated breast research nurse.
The breast surgeons offer a full repertoire of diagnostic, excisional, oncoplastic and reconstructive procedures delivered on site (including therapeutic mammoplasty, partial breast reconstruction using pedicled flaps, abdominal advancement flap, acellular dermal matrices, dermal sling and latissimus dorsi flap). We have a high immediate breast reconstruction rate of approximately 50%. Free flap breast reconstructions are referred to plastic surgeons at Addenbookes Hospital.
We also offer a full range of oncoplastic symmetrisation procedures such as reduction, augmentation, mastopexy, lipofilling, nipple reconstruction and tattoo; as well as complex revisional surgeries on site.
