Summary

The Role:New City College has an exciting opportunity for an experienced SaLTA or SEN HLTA (special educational needs, higher level teaching assistant) to join our newly created in-house speech & language therapy (SaLT) department. You will support students aged between 16-25 years across both our SEND discrete curriculum and mainstream cohorts.The SaLT department is responsible for the SaLT provision across all of New City College’s campuses in London and Essex. We are looking for a number of SaLTAs to support our speech and language therapists for two days a week at six of our campuses. Applicants might be interested in working for just two days at one campus, or for 4-5 days across 2-3 campuses.Our SaLT service aims to ensure that learners with speech, language and communication needs (SLCN) receive effective and functional support to achieve their educational and vocational goals and learn the skills needed for a successful transition to their chosen post-college pathway. Key Responsibilities:We are looking for committed SaLTAs who are passionate about supporting learners. You will help to informally assess and support students by running small intervention groups under the guidance of a SaLT, in addition to providing administrative support and making resources.Reporting to the SaLT Manager, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside teaching and specialist support staff, students, and their families. Who You Are:Good numeracy and literacy skills are essential, as is experience of working in an educational setting supporting students with speech, language, and communication needs. Other required skills include strong organisation and administrative skills, good attention to detail, and the ability to work well as part of a team as well as the initiative and the ability to work independently and prioritise your workload efficiently. The ability to communicate clearly and respectively with learners of different ages, backgrounds and needs is also particularly important.
