Summary

Canterbury City Council covers the city of Canterbury which has World Heritage status, a beautiful coastline as well as many traditional village and rural areas.

The district also contains the Kent Downs National Landscape, the Great Stour, 15 Sites of Special Scientific Interest, and many public parks and gardens. There are numerous Friends of groups supporting our work and many volunteers giving their time to improve the district’s green spaces

This role provides a fantastic opportunity for someone with a passion for protecting and enhancing the natural environment and open spaces to help the council deliver its ambitious programme of open space and green infrastructure projects, and to meet our biodiversity and climate change goals.

The annual salary for the post starts at £30,105 rising to £32,913 for candidates with exceptional experience.

Canterbury offers very flexible working arrangements.

Main Duties

We are seeking a highly motivated and organised person, who has excellent written and verbal skills, and shares a keen interest in protecting and conserving the natural environment.

You will support members of the Environment Team in delivering a diverse range of projects and initiatives.

Duties will include : supporting the preparation of environment management plans and policies, liaising with contractors and undertaking site visits, team administration, submitting grant and green flag applications, supporting partnership working and community groups, and assisting with public consultation events.


Essential Requirements

Knowledge of managing, protecting and enhancing open spaces, the countryside or parks and gardens.

Excellent verbal, written and IT skills, an organised approach and good project management skills, ability to carry out site visits and supervise contractors.

Experience of supporting or delivering projects and community engagement.

5 GCSE’s (grade 4 and above) including English and Maths.

The post requires you to have a full driving licence and access to a car.
