Your New Company

Hays Education are working in partnership with a specialist secondary SEMH school in Bury that supports pupils aged 11-16 with social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs. The school provides a therapeutic, trauma-informed environment for students who have struggled in mainstream education due to behavioural, emotional, or mental health challenges. The school is committed to restorative practice, personalised learning, and holistic support, with a strong emphasis on building trust and consistency. Staff work closely with families, therapists, and external agencies to ensure each student receives the tailored support they need to succeed.

Your New Job

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) to join this supportive team from September 2025. This is a full-time, temporary role with the potential to become permanent, depending on performance and fit within the school. As an HLTA, you will:

  • Support students with SEMH needs in small groups and 1:1 settings
  • Deliver structured interventions and learning activities
  • Assist with planning and assessment alongside teaching staff
  • Lead lessons in the absence of a teacher when required
  • Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies
  • Be a consistent, calm, and nurturing presence for students with complex needs

What You'll Need to Succeed

  • HLTA status or equivalent experience in a similar role
  • Proven experience working with children or young people with SEMH or SEND
  • A trauma-informed, empathetic approach to behaviour management
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A commitment to inclusive education and student wellbeing
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
