Summary

As a progressive department, our intention is to recruit a Consultant Anaesthetist to join our team at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. The successful applicant will undertake anaesthetic sessions across a wide range of surgical specialties. There are a total of 10 PAs within the job which could be filled by a variety of options from the existing pool of uncovered lists and flexible cover for consultant leave. UHB is one of the largest teaching hospital trusts in England, serving a regional, national, and international population. The anaesthetic department at the QEHB site is made up of over 130 consultants providing the full spectrum of tertiary and secondary care services. As a large anaesthetic department we support both local and international trainees and have an active educational programme. The successful candidate will hold the FRCA, or equivalent, and have extensive experience and evidence of extended training in aspects of general anaesthesia. We particularly welcome applications from motivated individuals keen to invest in the development of the service and contribute to a positive departmental culture. There is ample opportunity and support within the department for the successful candidate to nurture their academic and non academic interests. A supportive and positive workplace culture is important to us. We were one of the first departments to introduce a Learning from Excellence programme and this is actively used to provide positive feedback which has been very well received from all working tiers. Facilities at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham include consultant hot desks, rest area for out of hours, a large communal coffee room and a seminar room. The seminar room can be booked for teaching sessions, meetings, appraisal or educational supervision meetings. The department is supported by a great and open-hearted anaesthetic administration team. The trust operates a mentor scheme for all new consultants from a consultant outside of anaesthesia. In addition, support will be available for out of hours work until the successful candidate is well established and comfortable in their post.
