Summary

This isn't your typical teaching role-and that's exactly what makes it so rewarding.
You'll be working with a small group of students (a maximum of ten at a time), across Years 8 and 9, who have Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. These young people thrive on structure, understanding, and connection-and that's where you come in. Your role will be as much about building trust and creating a safe learning environment as it is about delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that re-ignite their love for learning.

What we're looking for:

  • Experience teaching at KS3 level
  • A strong grasp of strategies for working with SEMH students
  • Resilience, patience, and a proactive attitude
  • Someone who sees the potential in every pupil, even when it's buried deep

In return, you'll receive:

  • A dedicated Hays consultant to support you throughout your placement
  • Regular check-ins and access to wellbeing support
  • Opportunities for CPD and long-term career growth

    Essential Qualifications & Experience:
  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or QTLS (with appropriate evidence of registration)
  • Proven experience teaching KS3, ideally Years 8 and 9
  • Demonstrated ability to differentiate learning between mixed-ability groups
  • Understanding of and strategies for supporting SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs
  • Enhanced DBS check (on the Update Service, or willing to obtain one)

Desirable (but not essential):

  • Prior experience teaching within a Pupil Referral Unit or Alternative Provision
  • Training in Team Teach or other de-escalation techniques
  • Familiarity with trauma-informed approaches to behaviour and classroom management
  • Knowledge of EHCPs (Education, Health and Care Plans) and how to implement them in lesson planning

Teaching in a PRU isn't for everyone-but for the right person, it's a chance to make a lasting impact. If you're ready to be that steady, positive force for young people navigating tough times, we'd love to hear from you.
