Summary
Applications are invited for a suitably qualified Clinical Scientist to join our committed and enthusiastic team in the department of Biochemistry at North Bristol NHS Trust as a Consultant Clinical Scientist. This is a replacement post for a forthcoming retirement and will be a key leadership role within the specialist areas of Newborn Screening and Metabolic Biochemistry.
We are looking to recruit a motivated and dynamic individual with excellent leadership skills and the experience required to deliver and develop the Newborn Screening Laboratory and the repertoire of metabolic testing that the department provides.As part of Blood Sciences at Southmead Hospital,the department of Biochemistry provides a comprehensive clinical diagnostic service to the North Bristol NHS Trust and local community, The department is committed to providing a high quality service for all its users and is a UKAS accredited medical laboratory.
The successful applicant will be expected to fulfil the role of Newborn Screening Laboratory Director having responsibility for the leadership, management and provision of the South West (SW) Newborn Screening Laboratory. The post holder will also provide clinical and scientific leadership for the South West Metabolic Biochemistry Laboratory.
The appointed individual will be expected to participate in all aspects of the Biochemistry service including clinical leadership, clinical liaison, strategic management, service and business development, teaching and training and tosupport the on-going development of Blood Sciences and Severn Pathology.
A broad range of experience in Biochemistry will be desirable together with detailed knowledge of analysis and interpretation in Metabolic Biochemistry and practical experience of the delivery and management of a Newborn Blood Spot Screening Programme.
Applicants must beHCPC registered as a Clinical Scientist in Biochemistry and be a Fellow of the Royal College of Pathologists.

As aConsultant Clinical Scientistacting as an independent practitioner the post holder will:
Fulfil the role of Newborn Screening Laboratory Director having responsibility for the leadership, management and provision of the South West (SW) Newborn Screening Laboratory.
Be accountable for and provide clinical and scientific leadership for the South West Metabolic Biochemistry Laboratory.
With colleagues provide an effective scientific and clinical advisory service for the department of clinical biochemistry.
As part of the senior management team provide ongoing strategic direction and development of the service, in collaboration with clinicians, managers and users of the service.
Act in a consultant capacity for all aspects of the work of the Department, providing clinical liaison and a high level of scientific knowledge, skill and expertise
