Summary
As the role of the Data Development team continues to grow and evolve and the two big systems replacement projects get underway (Finance and CRM) we are seeking to bring in a Junior Developer. The team is poised to play a significant role in the next phase of the organisation's investment in digital technology, leading on the migration of data from legacy systems to new cloud based 'service applications' and integration with our digital estate.What's the role about?We’re looking for an individual who is able to demonstrate the competencies required to move up to the role of a Systems Developer. Besides a technical prowess we need someone who is willing to learn data management techniques via the use of Ab Initio software and associated SQL database access methods.You will be able to communicate effectively with a range of technical and non-technical stakeholders, demonstrating initiative with a positive and proactive attitude. Be able to understand and interpret business challenges and communicate with the more senior members of the team and assist in the identification and creation of technical solutions. The Data Development team works with a range of technologies, but primarily with Ab Initio so we are looking for someone who understands ETL (Extract, Transform & Load) data manipulation concepts and can assist in the creation of appropriate solutions under the guidance of more senior members of the team.A broad understanding of the various RSPB business functions, how they interact with each other, and the role that data plays in how they operate, would be beneficial.As a new member of Data Development this is an exciting opportunity to join the team at a unique juncture where we are playing a critical role in the migration to new cloud based systems and changes to the way that we consume and utilise data. We support a healthy work life balance and full remote working to help save nature through people.Essentials:Ability to demonstrate the competencies required to undertake the duties associated with this level of post having had experience of working at the RSPB in a related role.A self-starter, someone who is able to solve problems but also has the awareness to seek input from more senior members of the team at the appropriate time.Use of Initiative and judgement to resolve problems independently and/or through a support team.Understanding of relevant legal requirements, e.g. GDPR principles, organisational policies and procedures relative to the role, and the quality outputs and standards required.Desirable skills, knowledge and experience:Knowledge of the RSPB's application landscape and interoperability.Ability to influence others and explain / discuss technical concepts and ideas with individuals not familiar with digital technology.Additional InformationThis is a Permanent role for 37.5 hours per week.
