Summary
Allstaff Manufacturing Division are delighted to bring to the market the role of Health & Safety Advisor.
Role Purpose
The Health & Safety Advisor will use their skills and knowledge to promote a positive health and safety culture within the workplace. They will assist the Head of Health & Safety in driving a culture which never compromises on the health and safety of employees, contractors, customers and partners by ensuring the workforce is fully engaged in understanding their responsibilities and empowered to take action when required.
The Health & Safety Advisor will also assist the Health & Safety Team to ensure robust management systems are in place to minimise risks and ensure robust control measures are in place to protect employees and others from harm. In addition, to help make sure safety policies and processes are developed and implemented to help ensure compliance with legal requirements and best practice. The role will require working closely with line managers and employees at all levels within the organisation.
Key Accountabilities
Support with the development of H&S related policies and processes and help maintain compliance with ISO 45001 certification requirements.
Carry out regular health and safety audits and inspections to help ensure the workplace is safe and that safety checks are being completed and hazards reported. Issues raised require to be highlighted and corrective or preventative actions put in place.
Support with development of risk assessments and safe systems of work to help ensure that all significant hazards have been identified and control measures are in place to mitigate risks identified.
Help ensure robust worker and contractor induction programmes are in place and support with the delivery of inductions.
Provide support and advise on health and safety enquiries and investigate concerns raised by employees, safety representatives and members of the public, where appropriate, and act accordingly.
Apply specialist knowledge of high-risk activities undertaken by workers, for example, the Engineering Department, and advise on appropriateness of health and safety arrangements.
Liaise with external agencies, service providers (e.g. Occupational Health) and Human Resources to contribute to the management of sickness absence and employee occupational health and wellbeing initiatives across the Group.
Carry out investigation and reporting of accidents and dangerous occurrences involving employees, agency workers and contractors and report to, as required, to the HSE and company management.
Collate and maintain health and safety records. Support with compilation of data and statistics for reporting and monitoring trends.
Undertake monitoring of corrective action plans arising from internal and external audits, inspections and recommendations from risk assessments.
Organise health, safety and wellbeing committee meetings and collate and distribute the minutes to the workforce. Provide coaching to help with the skills development of H&S reps.
Develop and implement initiatives to promote the health, safety and wellbeing of workers.
Ensure near misses and hazards are reported and appropriate corrective and preventive measures are implemented. Support with administration of the health and safety reporting system.
Liaise with contractors and ensure maintain the Contractor Approved List (CAL) by ensuring that all documentation, such as method statements, risk assessments and insurance are in place and are recorded in the CAL.
Keep up to date with legal requirements and best practice and provide updates to the business.
Key Skills, Experience and Qualifications
As a minimum, fulfil the requirements for TechIOSH or CertIOSH
NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety or equivalent
In depth knowledge of health and safety legislation and practice
A clear understanding of how legislation and procedures should be implemented within a complex work environment
Knowledge of relevant current, draft and proposed legislation relating to occupational health and safety as it applies to a diverse organisation
Experience Required
General NEBOSH Certificate as a minimum
At least 2 years' experience as a Health & Safety Advisor
Ideally from a manufacturing background
Willingness to work toward IOSH accreditation
Hours of work: 8am–4.30pm, Monday to Frida
Salary: Up to £40,000 DOE
