Person specification Criteria Essential Desirable Qualifications Good literacy and numeracy skills. NVQ Level 2. NVQ Level 3 in Health and/or Social Care. Working towards NVQ Level 3. Experience Ability to work within a team. Able to work independently. Ability to manage own time. High quality organisational skills. Previous experience in a health and social care setting. Simple Wound care. Clinical observations. Support with end-of-life care. Pressure area care. Special knowledge / expertise Basic I.T skills. Knowledge of Health and Safety, and the principles of risk assessment. Disposition, adjustment, attitude and commitment Good communication skills verbally and written. Flexibility and adaptability to change. Practical / intellectual skills Ability to travel to dispersed settings in a timely manner. Communication and relationship skills Exchanges factual information with patients using persuasion, reassurance, tact, empathy; may overcome barriers to understanding, e.g. patient/client has physical impairment, mental health condition or learning disabilities. Analytical and judgemental skills Assesses patients health, safety and wellbeing while undertaking personal care, deciding whether to refer to other staff as appropriate. Physical skills Hand eye co-ordination for manoeuvring wheelchairs, bathing patients/clients, using hoists; standard driving. Patient / client care Undertakes personal care duties, e.g. bathing, toileting, dressing, support with meals and assisting patients with their appearance. Physical effort Frequent moderate effort for several long periods - Turns, manoeuvres patients/clients for toileting, bathing using aids; toileting. Mental effort Frequent concentration; work pattern predictable. Concentration for personal care procedures, standard driving. Emotional effort Occasional distressing or emotional circumstances - Care of patients/clients with chronic illness/conditions, terminally ill and deaths.
