Our well-established Transport Planning Apprenticeship Scheme (Level 3) combines working in a number of teams across the Environment and Transport Department at Leicestershire County Council intersected with several residential training blocks at Leeds College of Building and a week long European field trip.

We are looking for a number of individuals that have a genuine interest in the topic to become our new cohort that supports the department, local communities and elected members.

About the Role

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • To work in various sections of the Department as assigned to gain experience in Transport Planning.
  • To assist with carrying out technical and administrative work of the section in which the apprentice is assigned.
  • To attend residential training blocks (at Leeds College of Building).
  • To maintain training records in accordance with the requirements of the Training Scheme and the Corporate Learning and Development Advisor.
  • To comply with all authority and departmental policies, management systems, procedures and working practices.
  • To carry out college work during your own time. Assignments and revision for exams will be in addition to direct learning hours at college.
  • Complete End Point Assessment administered by CIHT.

Such other duties as might be required by other officers that are appropriate to the Transport Planning Apprentice education, experience and position of the training programme.

About You

To apply for this post, you must:

  • Have a minimum of 5 GCSE’s at Grade A* - C or 9 – 4. This must include Maths and English or equivalent.
  • Able to attend residential training blocks at Leeds College of Building and to carry out college work during your own time. Assignments and revision for exams will be in addition to direct learning hours at college.
  • To work in various sections of the Department as assigned to gain experience in Transport Planning, able to adapt to varying workloads and priorities, work to tight timescales and to agreed targets.
  • No prior transport planning knowledge is required, but a sound experience in collaborative working to build positive relationships based on trust and an interest in this area of work is desirable.
  • Be able to coordinate and interpret information from a number of sources to support the delivery of projects, and complete the apprenticeship.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including being able to provide relevant, concise oral and written advice to senior offices, external partners and training provider.
  • A customer focused approach where the customer experience is central to the delivery of the service.
