Summary

As a Data Manager, you'll bring clarity to complex workforce data by gathering, cleaning, and aligning information from across the Department. Your analysis will support everything from strategic planning to fast-turnaround insights, helping teams make informed decisions. It's a role that combines technical skill with curiosity, collaboration, and a drive to make data more useful and accessible.

Pay up to £45,081, plus 28.9% employer pension contributions, hybrid working with 60% home working, flexible hours, and great work life balance.

DWP. Digital with Purpose.

DWP is the UK's largest government department. We help people into work, and make payments worth over £195bn a year to support some of the most vulnerable people in our society.

We are looking for a Data Manager to join our community of tech experts in DWP Digital. We're driving a once-in-a-generation transformation of government services.

We're using fresh ideas and leading-edge technologies to build and maintain innovative, scalable and user-centric digital solutions that will be used by nearly every person in the UK, at key moments in their lives.

The scale of what we do is extraordinary, and our purpose is unique. We'd love you to join us.

Delivery. Work. Projects.

This role is all about making sense of workforce data, pulling it together from different systems, cleaning it up, and turning it into something useful. You'll be working with information from across the Department, including the People Management Information system and DWP Digital's own recruitment tools, making sure everything lines up and tells a clear story.

Once the data's in good shape, you'll dive into the analysis, spotting patterns, tracking trends, and helping teams understand what's really going on. Some of this feeds into big-picture work, like the annual Digital Workforce Plan or the Government Digital and Data (GDaD) returns. Other times, it's about responding quickly to one-off requests, figuring out what's needed, and finding the best way to deliver it.

You'll be part of a collaborative team, working with colleagues across Digital to improve how we collect and use data. There's room to experiment too, whether it's building dashboards that make data more accessible or trying out new tools and techniques to sharpen how we report. If you enjoy working with data, solving problems, and helping others see the bigger picture, this could be a great fit.

What skills, knowledge and experience will you need?

  • You'll work confidently with large, complex data sets from a range of sources, helping turn detailed information into clear insights that support strategic decisions.
  • You'll use a variety of visualisation and communication techniques to bring data to life, choosing the right approach for the audience and the message.
  • You'll explain complex ideas in a straightforward way, making sure your insights land clearly whether you're writing a report or speaking to a room.
  • You'll build strong relationships with senior stakeholders and colleagues across the organisation, helping shape conversations and influence outcomes.

Details. Wages. Perks.

You'll join us in one of our brilliant digital hubs in Birmingham, Blackpool, Leeds, Manchester, Newcastle-upon-Tyne and Sheffield, whichever is most convenient for you.

We also have all the tools and tech we need to enable our people to work and collaborate flexibly. We work a hybrid model - you'll be in the office about 40% of the time, and 60% home working.

We offer competitive pay of up to £45,081.

You'll also get a brilliant civil service pension with employer contributions worth over 28.9%, and a generous leave package starting at 26 days.

You can also take up to 3 extra days off a month on flexi-time.

We have a broad benefits package built around your work-life balance which includes:

  • An award-winning environment and culture: Employer of the Year 2023 (Women In IT Awards), Founders Award for Outstanding Digital Leadership 2023 (Digital 100)
  • Flexible working including flexible hours and family-friendly policies
  • Time off volunteering and charitable giving
  • Bring your authentic self to work with 'I Can Be Me in DWP'
  • Discounts and savings on shopping, fun days out and more
  • Interest-free loans to buy a bike or a season ticket, so it's even easier for you to get to work and start making a difference
  • Sports and social activities
  • Professional development, coaching, mentoring and career progression opportunities.
