East Renfrewshire’s Education Department is looking for a suitable candidate to join our Learn Well Service as a Family Support and Hospital Liaison Worker. This post is temporary until March 2027.
The successful candidate will work under the direction of our Education Department to support the families of children and young people with varying needs that are impacting on their wellbeing, often resulting in Emotionally Based School Absence. An important part of this role will include visitation and co-ordination of support for children and young people who are in hospitals across Greater Glasgow and Clyde.
Our Learn Well Service currently comprises a Teacher, a Whole Family Wellbeing Family Support Worker, a Pupil Support Assistant and a Project Worker from Children 1st. The Family Support and Hospital Liaison Worker will work effectively within this team and be an active participant in the process of co-ordinating learning for children and young people in hospital. They will work closely with families, ERC schools and liaise with education staff in hospital sites in Glasgow.
A range of casework and administrative duties will also form part of your remit. You must be literate and numerate, have excellent interpersonal skills and a particular ability to relate to children, young people, families, and school staff, with insight into why attendance and engagement in learning can become a challenge for some young people. You should be willing to give practical and emotional assistance to children, young people and families where necessary, be able to work independently with professional integrity, and undertake relevant training to provide the right supports for families of children and young people who are accessing the service. This will include training in autism spectrum conditions and trauma informed practice. The successful applicant will be required to work flexibly across different locations in East Renfrewshire in response to the needs of our Learn Well Service users, however a main hub base is located in Braidbar House, Giffnock.

The post holder may occasionally be required to work some evenings out-with the core working day to facilitate, for example, group-work with parents.
This post is considered Regulated Work with Children and Protected Adults, under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. It is an offence therefore to apply if you are barred from working with children and protected adults. In addition to this, if you have lived or worked in any country outside the UK in the past 10 years, there may be a requirement for an overseas police check.
This post requires Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration. You must currently have registration or eligibility to apply from commencement of employment (you must apply to register within the first 3 months of employment to ensure registration is complete within 6 months of starting in your role).
