Location: Plymouth
Contract Type: Temporary (Maternity Leave Cover)
Duration: 1 October 2025 – 27 February 2026
Working Pattern: Monday–Friday, 09:00–17:30 | 37 hours/week

About the Role
Plymouth City Council is seeking a proactive and dedicated Health, Safety and Wellbeing Assistant to support its busy internal Health, Safety and Wellbeing team. You'll help maintain a safe and positive workplace environment across council services by coordinating initiatives, overseeing digital systems, and offering frontline advice.

This temporary post is an excellent opportunity to apply your organisational and communication skills in a meaningful setting, where your work directly impacts employee wellbeing and safety.

Key Responsibilities
Provide coordination and administrative support across wellbeing initiatives and safety audits

Oversee and triage the Health, Safety and Wellbeing shared mailbox

Act as the first point of contact for staff queries on HSW matters

Support the daily monitoring and escalation of incident reports via the SHE Assure system

Maintain accurate HSW records and contribute to data analysis and reporting

Assist in delivering training and awareness activities across departments

Ensure information and resources (e.g. the staffroom portal) remain up to date and accessible

Excellent communication and customer service skills

Solid organisational and multitasking abilities

Awareness of HSW legislation and best practices

Ability to analyse information, prepare reports, and manage confidential data securely

Competence in MS Office 365 and digital record-keeping systems

IOSH Managing Safely or NEBOSH (or working towards qualification) preferred
