Psychology Technician

1.0 FTE / 35 Hours per week

Grade 4 - Starts at £24,344 rising by yearly increments to a maximum of £25,733 per annum.

This is a fully campus-based role.

Start date 01 September 2025

Who we’re looking for:

We are looking for a committed and passionate graduate of psychology to join our psychology team within the School of Health, Wellbeing and Social Science. You will fully support teaching and research activities, ensuring that the teaching and lab spaces are prepared and compliant to legislative or policy requirements. You will also support teaching and research activities by providing guidance and training in relevant techniques or processes and provide technical support and guidance to the psychological teaching staff and research teams by preparing the practical delivery of teaching classes and research activities.

What you’d be doing:

•Provide high quality technical expertise to support psychology teaching and research activities
•Assist and advise students, supporting their learning and research via demonstrations, tutorials/workshops and provision of training materials.
•Compile reports, undertake risk assessments pertinent to laboratory spaces and have good awareness of health and safety issues in a psychological lab environment.
•Ordering consumables, stock taking and arranging for servicing of laboratory equipment.
•Assisting students in the correct use of equipment and consumables when undertaking independent study.
•Assist and advise students and staff, supporting with research and allied activities throughout the year

•Working as part of a small team: we are a close and friendly team who regularly mutually support each other.
•Developing your own skills and knowledge: on a number of levels, both in the psychology programme and also with other laboratory staff on other programmes.
•Collaborating with others: in working with industry suppliers, partners, staff and students.
•Engaging with technology: we have some of the most up-to-date equipment in our laboratories.
•Psychological Research: you can support research from design, through ethical considerations through to collection and analysis.
•Working to your values: we care about how people behave as well as what they achieve.

Where you’ll work:

In this role, you will be based in the psychology team, on our green campus in the north of Plymouth.
