The postholder will be part of a team of secretaries providing administrative/secretarial support to the Cellular Pathology Department. The role will involve general secretarial duties which include the typing of correspondence, reports, test requesting, and dealing with email/telephone enquiries to facilitate the delivery of molecular testing and whole-genome sequencing service across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) region. The role will require working within multiple speciality groups within Histopathology. As part of the CPGC at Leeds, you will play a key role in the delivery of the requesting and reporting workflows for molecular testing within the region through a range of routine tasks. You will be expected to communicate with consultants and other colleagues via telephone, email and face to face. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED It is essential that the post holder: Holds OCR/RSA Level 2 (or equivalent experience) in word processing or text processing Has experience of using word processing software and presentation software Is reliable and has a professional attitude Has excellent written and oral communication skills Has an excellent telephone manner Is able to work flexibly It is desirable that the post holder: Has significant experience of working in an office Has five GCSEs or equivalent, including maths and English Can use spreadsheet and database software Has a knowledge of the NHS environment Holds the European Computer Driving Licence Can use his/her initiative when dealing with problems or queries. CORE KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING Understanding of the need for confidentiality and discretion Understanding of the need to act professionally at all times Understanding of the NHS and the organisation would be desirable PRINCIPAL DUTIES & AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY The postholder will provide a high quality secretarial/administrative service including specialist word processing skills. Communicate effectively with the consultants and the team, lab staff and other Trust staff to ensure the delivery of a co-ordinated and consistent CPGC service. Creating and maintaining appropriate record systems. The post holder will contribute to the direct and indirect delivery of molecular testing and whole-genome sequencing service across the West Yorkshire and Harrogate Association of Acute Trusts (WYAAT) region. As part of the CPGC at Leeds, you will play a key role in the delivery of the requesting and reporting workflows for molecular testing. Booking in of molecular cases on departmental computer system, including referred cases from external sources. Molecular test ordering on departmental computer system. Transcribing genomics reports into integrated reports for clinical sign-out by Consultant histopathologists Provide training and support to new staff. Respond to written and telephone enquiries in a polite and helpful manner, prioritising messages and taking responsibility for any follow up action. Processing all associated paperwork for molecular work requests. Other duties as applicable The post-holder may be expected to deputise in a supervisory capacity as and when required. This list is not exhaustive and the changing needs of the service from time to time may require the development of other appropriate tasks and skills. These will be fully discussed with the post holder in advance of their implementation. In addition the Trust requires compliance with a number of corporate policies and procedures.
