Summary

Interim Assistant Director for Economic Development and Growth Programmes

Are you a strategic leader with a passion for driving economic growth and regeneration? Hays are proud to be partnering with Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council to recruit an experienced Interim Assistant Director of Economic Development and Growth Programmes to provide high-level leadership and programme oversight across a dynamic portfolio of economic development and place-based investment initiatives. This is a pivotal interim role, offering the opportunity to shape and sustain momentum on Solihull's economic growth agenda during a period of transition.


The key responsibilities of this role are:

  • Lead the delivery of Solihull's Economic Strategy and the East Birmingham-North Solihull (EBNS) Investment Strategy.
  • Oversee a complex portfolio of economic, infrastructure, housing, and regeneration programmes.
  • Ensure alignment with Council priorities, robust governance, and effective risk management.
  • Represent the Council in regional and national forums and build strong partnerships with key stakeholders.
  • Provide visible leadership to internal teams, supporting high performance and continuity.


✅ What We're Looking For

We're seeking a confident and capable interim leader with:

  • A proven track record in strategic programme management and economic development.
  • Experience working at a senior level within or alongside local/combined authorities.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills.
  • A deep understanding of funding mechanisms, business case development, and governance.
  • The ability to thrive in a fast-paced, politically sensitive environment.
  • Strong commercial awareness, analytical skills, and a pragmatic, outcome-driven approach.
