Summary

Role Title: Wood Machinist
Location based South of Norwich – Own transport required due to location.
Salary based on experience, hourly rate paid a week in arrears PAYE.
Role is initially on a Temporary basis but could lead to a fulltime permanent position for the successful candidate.

Our client is a family run business, based to the South of Norwich, dedicated to creating truly bespoke, beautiful and functional bespoke wooden products for the home and beyond, as well as office & event clients

Designers & producers of joinery products from our manufacturing facility based to , including design studio, machine shop, assembly & spray booths.

Our client are a busy team looking for a Wood Machinist to ensure a smooth running facility bringing support & organisational experience to the team.

Key Main Duties & Responsibilities

The job comprises of the main areas outlined below

• Program CNC using CAD/CAM software.
• Reading and interpreting blueprints: Accurately interpreting technical drawings and specifications to determine the required cuts and shapes on the wood.
• Machine setup and operation: Setting up and operating a variety of woodworking machinery including table saws, band saws, planers, moulders, routers, edge banders & CNCs.
• Material selection: Choosing the appropriate type and grade of wood for the intended application.
• Cutting and shaping: Precisely cutting and shaping wood pieces to required dimensions using various cutting and shaping tools on the machinery.
• Quality control: Inspecting finished components for accuracy, defects, and adherence to quality standards.
• Maintaining machinery: Performing routine maintenance and cleaning on woodworking equipment to ensure optimal functionality.
• Calculating measurements: Accurately measuring and calculating necessary dimensions for each piece of wood.
• Waste management: Minimizing waste by efficiently utilizing wood materials.
• Attend team meetings.
• Managing set personal targets.

Required skills for a wood machinist role:

To be successful in this role, you should exhibit experience in wood machinist based experience. Be process driven, controlled under pressure and importantly a team player for the delivery of a very demanding sector of manufacturing. The ability to multi-task in a complex and demanding environment and have the ability to build and maintain highly effective working relationships with a range of people (both internally and externally).

• Strong mechanical aptitude and understanding of woodworking principles
• Ability to read and interpret technical drawings
• Precision measuring skills
• Experience with various woodworking machines
• Attention to detail and quality control
• Physical stamina to handle repetitive tasks
• May require a carpentry apprenticeship or relevant vocational training
