Summary
At Brookdale Primary School wellbeing, enjoyment and inclusion are at the heart of all they do and where each individual (both children and staff) are encouraged to be the very best they can be.
The Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprentice will involve assisting the teacher in the planning of sessions and the management or preparation of resources. TA3 may also supervise whole classes occasionally during the short-term absence of teachers. (3 days maximum).
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
•To support the learning of individuals and groups of pupils as agreed with the class teacher and to act as a role model, setting high expectations
•To focus on individual pupils to ensure their needs are being met within the group
•To work with other staff to develop and implement support plans for pupils
•To observe, record and support the development and progress of pupils to identify individual needs and difficulties and to feed back to pupils in relation to their progress and achievement
•To encourage good personal hygiene and assist with necessary self-help skills where appropriate (feeding, toileting, dressing, etc)
•Undertake to plan and deliver tailored intervention to support individual and small groups of pupils as part of the National Tutoring Programme for COVID Catch Up support on at least 2 days per week
•To plan with teachers the daily/weekly programme of lessons, activities and events in order to support pupils and adjust lessons/work plans as appropriate
•Occasional supervision of the class in the course of short term absences of teachers, focusing on maintaining good order and to keep pupils on task under the guidance of teaching staff and within an agreed system of supervision
•To set out, prepare, use and tidy equipment
•To listen, support and discuss issues sensitively with parents and carers under the teacher’s supervision and to participate in feedback sessions/meetings with parents where appropriate
•To provide objective and accurate feedback and reports as required to the teacher on pupil achievement, progress and other matters, ensuring the availability of appropriate evidence
•To administer and assess routine tests and assist in the invigilation of exams/tests as agreed with the teacher
•To provide general clerical support, e.g. administer coursework, produce worksheets for agreed activities, etc.
•To set out and prepare equipment indoors and outdoors
•To support the use of ICT in learning activities and develop pupils’ competence and independence in its use
•To help pupils access learning activities through specialist support
Training
Your full role and responsibilities will be set out by your employer. Brookdale Primary will provide you with all of the on-the-job training you need to up-skill in your role, and your 20% off-the-job learning will be incorporated as part of your working day.
You will be working towards the Level 3 Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship standard, which includes:
• Knowledge, Skills and Behaviours
• Level 3 Teaching Assistant Standard
• CACHE Level 2 Certificate in Understanding Safeguarding and Prevent
• Level 2 Functional Skills in maths and English (by exception)
This will be delivered through Brookdale Primary’s dedicated training provider, Realise.
Realise is an established training provider that’s enjoying an exciting period of growth following a management buyout and rebrand in late 2020.
Qualifications required
Grade 4 GCSE (or equivalent) in maths and English - desirable
Skills required
Use of standard, spoken English
Good Numeracy and Literacy skills

Potential to progress to a TA role in the school
Qualification / Standard : ST0454 Teaching assistant
Duration 15 months
