remote-based Functional Skills English Lead.

remote-based Functional Skills English Lead.
The Role:
You will be responsible for supporting both development coaches and learners, ensuring that Functional Skills are not only
embedded into everyday practice but also delivered with clarity, confidence, and measurable impact. As the Functional Skills Lead,
you will work collaboratively with development coaches to enhance their capability in delivering and contextualising Functional
Skills content, while also supporting learner progress where needed. You will lead on the quality assurance of Functional Skills
provision, develop high-quality resources, and implement targeted strategies to raise achievement rates across the board.
The role will involve:
-Provide targeted, high-impact coaching and support to development coaches to improve the delivery of Functional Skills in English
and maths
-Plan and deliver upskilling sessions for development coaches to increase confidence and capability in embedding Functional
Skills within vocational programmes
-Develop and maintain high-quality, curriculum-aligned Functional Skills resources and delivery models tailored to learner and
sector needs
-Drive improved learner achievement in Functional Skills by supporting intervention planning, progress tracking, and
data-informed decision-making
-Observe and quality assure Functional Skills elements of delivery and provide structured, developmental feedback to coaches

About You
- Recognised teaching qualification (e.g., PGCE, CertEd, or Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training)
- Level 3 qualification in English
- Proven experience of delivering Functional Skills to a high standard, with strong achievement outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to coach, support, or mentor other teaching professionals
- Strong understanding of Functional Skills specifications (e.g. TQUK and City & Guilds)
- Ability to analyse learner progress data and implement effective interventions
- Knowledge of digital tools and online platforms for blended FS delivery (desirable)
- Internal quality assurance qualification (IQA) or similar (desirable)
