The Role

Do you have extensive experience in private sector housing enforcement? If you are highly knowledgeable with a strong housing background, appreciative of the complexities and interdependencies across disciplines this may be the role for you.

This is an exciting opportunity managing and developing the Housing Standards service; providing professional and technical expertise; and ensuring our legal obligations in relation to property standards and other critical interventions to improve the health, safety and wellbeing of residents are met.

A varied and challenging role managing a team of professionals with great opportunities to develop staff through apprenticeships and further professional study. You will identify new opportunities to enhance the service through partnership and close collaborative work, including across Community Housing Services, exploring new opportunities and building a positive contribution to housing and health, through the wider public health agenda.

You will also lead on delivering the Council’s objectives around empty properties and the licensing of houses in Multiple Occupation.

About You

You will be an experienced manager with excellent interpersonal, communication and leadership skills to establish and maintain effective teams and develop partnerships.

You’ll lead and develop projects, influencing and negotiating opportunities for funding and service development, whilst being highly organised to ensure compliance with changing legislation and regulation.

You will have high competency with the Housing Health & Safety Rating System, a wide variety of enforcement experience and a good understanding of housing and health issues. You will also need an in-depth and practical approach to tackling empty homes and property licensing schemes.
