Job Coach & Independent Travel Trainer
Term time only | 36 hours/week | 45.05 weeks/year
Actual Salary: £27,636.54–£31,986 (NJC Scale 5, SCP 12–17)
Permanent Contract | Based across West Lea School and the local area
West Lea School is looking for a passionate and patient Job Coach & Independent Travel Trainer to join our team. This is a hand on role that blends coaching, mentoring, and real world learning — making a genuine difference to the lives of young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
About the Role
In this rewarding role, you will support learners to build the confidence and practical skills they need to travel and work more independently. You’ll deliver personalised travel training, help learners use public transport safely and with confidence, and support them throughout work experience placements — from preparation and interviews, to gaining the resilience and skills they’ll carry into adulthood.
Each day is varied and active, from travelling a bus route with a learner to working with colleagues, families, employers, and external services to create safe, inclusive, and meaningful opportunities.
What We’re Looking For
• Experience working with young people with SEND or NEET groups.
• Confidence using public transport across London, and the ability to teach others.
• Calm, patient, and highly organised — with strong emotional intelligence.
• A proactive and solution focused approach.
• Excellent communication skills and a genuine passion for supporting independence.
What We Offer
• A generous pension scheme (19.01%) and funded CPD opportunities.
• Paid membership of a relevant professional body (if applicable).
• Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) and staff parking.
• The chance to make a lasting impact within a supportive, inclusive, and values driven school community.
Safeguarding Commitment
West Lea School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check, medical clearance, proof of right to work in the UK, and satisfactory references.
