Summary
We have an exciting opportunity to contribute towards improving and protecting the health and wellbeing of people in North Somerset. We’re looking for a talented Health and Wellbeing Officer to support the project management and implementation of North Somerset’s Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025-2028 and Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2024-2029.
The role will include project management to ensure progress in delivery, implementation, monitoring and promotion of the above-mentioned strategies and action plans. In addition, this role will include responsibility for creating, commissioning, and/or implementing interventions that are part of the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy and supporting the delivery of established programmes by taking a lead role for managing specific projects. Activities will be undertaken alongside colleagues across North Somerset Council and in collaboration with other partners.
Key Responsibilities:
Organise, lead, and report on the quarterly monitoring of the implementation of the Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025-2028 and bi-annual monitoring of the Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2024-2029.
Contribute to project management and operational support for development and delivery of North Somerset’s Joint Health and Wellbeing Strategy 2025-2028 and Mental Health and Wellbeing Strategy, including use of corporate project management tools.
Take a lead role in direct delivery of specific aspects of the Joint Health and Wellbeing strategy, including developing, commissioning, and/or delivering interventions or grant programmes included in the strategy, with clearly identified outcomes within an integrated service framework, which aim to improve health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce health inequalities.
Support engagement and co-production with service users, stakeholders and communities to inform service design and development and the delivery of accessible and equitable person-centred services.
Prepare or contribute to the preparation of written reports, progress reports, presentations, and materials relating to the strategy, including planning and providing support to relevant meetings or multi-agency groups linked to strategy development and implementation.
Analyse, interpret and use data, health intelligence and information to identify local health needs and make recommendations to support decision making.
Communicate effectively with multi agency partners, colleagues and people using local services, both verbally and in writing. This includes leading effective partnership working through forums and meetings in support of health and wellbeing and reducing inequalities.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about improving population health and reducing health inequalities, and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
Practical experience in supporting strategy development and implementation.
Experience in project and programme management, including establishing processes, prioritisation, and planning and co-ordination of projects and activities, working to plans, and adapting such plans as necessary.
Practical experience delivering services or projects through commissioning and partnership arrangements, to support evidence based public health and health improvement approaches.
Sound understanding of implementing effective population and community-based public health interventions
An up-to-date knowledge of public health services and effective health improvement strategies.
Good influencing and negotiating skills to work with partners in the development, project management, promotion, and implementation of strategic plans and interventions.
Ability to communicate, consult and engage effectively with a wide range of audiences, members of the community, and stakeholders, about health and wellbeing matters and on issues which may be complex, sensitive or contentious, whilst understanding and recognising professional boundaries.
Ability to critically analyse health data and research, and translate this into local recommendations, interventions, or actions.
Problem solving skills and judgement – ability to facilitate self and others to solve problems, break down complex issues into manageable parts, and think through the implications of decisions.
Good written and verbal presentation, communication and report writing skills, demonstrating
Desirable Criteria:
Approved specialist qualification in public health, health improvement, or related discipline, and practical experience of translating knowledge into practice.
Relevant professional registration e.g. UK Public Health Register
Experience of supervising/managing others, including team members, volunteers and/or work experience students, within the same field of work.
Experience of working with a range of partners to achieve a shared goal.
Demonstrable experience in, and commitment to, public health action aiming to reduce inequalities.
