My son is a cheeky, sometimes energetic 7-year-old boy who loves Minecraft,
collecting semi-precious stones and gems, digging, trampolining and drawing.
I am looking for a fun yet calm personal assistant to help him access a range of activities and experiences, such as swimming and social groups. Sometimes the support will enable me to have respite, at other times it will involve you being his 1:1 person when we access activities as a family.
My son has Autism and likes routine and sees things in black and white. He also has global developmental delay and struggles to communicate clearly, which can make him frustrated. You will need to show patience, kindness and get to know what makes him tick to manage his needs well.

Duties include:
Eating and drinking assistance
Moving and handling
Other relevant duties as required
Transportation
Companionship
Dressing / undressing
Bathroom assistance
Going on trips out with my son to access social and leisure activities
Accompanying us on trips out with the family, acting as a 1:1 for my son to
access social and leisure activities.
Support with finding activities and things to do locally

Candidate qualities:
Respectful of the employer's privacy and confidentiality
Reliable with good timekeeping
Able to both follow instructions and work on own initiative
Hygienic, tidy and well organised
Fit and healthy to undertake the required duties
Patient and possess excellent interpersonal skills
Honest and cheerful
Creative
Able to speak and read English to a reasonable standard
Must be comfortable with pets
Able to always work to high standards of health & safety
Experience of Autism is preferrable.

Additional requirements
Non-smoker preferred or someone willing to refrain from smoking during working hours

All applicants must have the right to work in the UK and be willing to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service check if required.
Please note, if you are successful in your application for this position, you will be either engaged directly or employed by the individual employer and not by
Independent Lives. The role may be offered on an employed or self-employed basis, depending on the suitability and agreement with the employer. If the role is employed, you will be entitled to holiday pay and issued an employment contract.
