Summary
New patients are seen on Mondays. All are first examined by a Specialist Trainee orOcular Oncology Fellow before being seen by the Consultant Ocular Oncologist. Responsible for Ward rounds following Treatments for intraocular melanoma include: ruthenium and iodine plaque radiotherapy, protonbeam radiotherapy, trans-pupillary thermotherapy, trans-scleral local resection, trans-retinalendoresection, and, of course, enucleation. Choroidal haemangiomas are treated withphotodynamic therapy. Conjunctival tumours are treated by local excision followed bybrachytherapy and/or topical chemotherapy. One operating theatre with anaesthetist is availablefor ocular oncology each Tuesday morning and Tuesday afternoon. In addition, two operatingtheatres and one anaesthetist are available for ocular oncology each Friday morning.
