Are you good at analysing large amounts of information in order to make well-reasoned decisions?Do you want to lead some of the Commission’s highest profile statutory inquiries?Do you want to play a role in stopping misconduct and mismanagement in charities?

As a Senior Investigator you will be responsible for contributing to the work of the Investigations Team by conducting statutory inquiries and supervising inquires conducted by others.

You will lead on the most complex, high risk, high profile statutory inquiries – often reporting directly to Senior and Executive Leadership Teams on strategy and handling. In doing so you will ensure the regulatory concerns are pursued efficiently, effectively and expediently, in accordance with the Commission’s operational guidance and procedures, using the Commission’s legal powers to protect charities and their assets from risk of, or ongoing, abuse.

In addition, you will mentor and support investigators in the progression and management of their inquiries. In doing so you will provide advice and support to members of the team about the use of legal powers and a range of case strategies.

Although predominately a case working role you will also be expected to contribute, on an ad hoc basis, to the development of investigative and wider Commission policy and to assist senior managers in achieving the Directorate’s core aims.

  • Contribute to the effective and timely delivery of assessment, inquiry and follow up casework, ensuring that targets are met and the Commission’s risk framework is applied correctly. This will involve gathering, analysing and deciding when to share evidence/information/intelligence (including from open source material, on-site reviews of books and records, and interviews), then exercising some of the Commission’s most significant legal powers effectively and in accordance with the legal framework (taking advice and guidance as appropriate from the Commission’s Legal, Intelligence and Accountancy teams and external agencies).
  • You will be expected to model the highest standards of drafting and maintenance of case records.
  • When necessary, you will give evidence in court and/or at the Charity Tribunal.
  • Be accountable to the Deputy Head of Investigations (Liverpool) for the daily operational management of investigative regulatory casework conducted by caseworkers under your supervision, ensuring that appropriate standards and resources are applied and giving caseworkers strategic direction and support on strategy implementation.
  • Identify and develop policy issues relevant to investigations work in order to ensure consistent understanding and application, and to enhance investigatory work, as well as running relevant projects and development work as required.
  • Work with colleagues to develop effective operational working relationships with other government departments, law enforcement agencies, regulators and other agencies.
