As a key technical leader, you will be responsible for the design, development, and ongoing support of cost-effective, cloud-based infrastructure that underpins the Charity Commission’s strategic objectives. This role involves leading the implementation and continuous improvement of scalable and secure cloud environments that support the full software development lifecycle—including development, escalated support, and live operations. You will ensure that infrastructure solutions are robust, efficient, and aligned with best practices in cloud architecture and service delivery.

Working closely with cross-functional teams, you will drive the adoption of modern technologies and automation to streamline operations and enhance system reliability. Your leadership will be instrumental in enabling rapid and consistent deployment of projects and technical solutions, ensuring they meet performance, security, and compliance standards. You will also play a pivotal role in shaping the future of the Commission’s digital services by fostering innovation and embedding continuous improvement mechanisms across infrastructure services. This is a high-impact role that offers the opportunity to influence the technical direction of a vital public organisation, ensuring its infrastructure is resilient, future-ready, and capable of supporting its mission to serve the public effectively.

The main things you would be doing are:

  • Technical specialism - You have in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure cloud infrastructure and technologies. You will use this to lead on the building maintenance and support of all technical and cloud related incidents as a specialist escalation point by the Service Desk team.
  • Technical projects lead - You will lead business roadmap projects from a technical Microsoft Azure Cloud perspective, to enable and implement solutions in a rapid and consistent manner.
  • Technical understanding - This Cloud knowledge underpins your ability to deliver the responsibilities and tasks for the role and ensures that you can apply the breadth and depth of technical knowledge you need. You stay abreast of industry developments to make cost-effective use of new and emerging Cloud tools and technologies.
  • Service focus - You will lead to ensure cloud services are delivered in line with SLA for escalated calls. These services are a combination of internally provisioned services, cloud hosted services and services from 3rd party suppliers. You can maintain service focus: from leading on designing to developing to delivering and operating. You know how to ensure that a set of IT products, suppliers and vendors come together to deliver an IT service. The adherence to policies, principles, standards, and procedures used in the building and maintenance of new and existing technical services.
  • Service Processes – You will ensure that service processes, documentation and governance are followed, maintained, and updated where required for the Commission’s technical services. Undertaking ITIL based Incident, Problem and Change processes Change Management – leading on the Microsoft Cloud related design, analysis, development, documentation, and implementation of changes based on individual requests for change or elements of change within a project including the presentation and discussions of RFC’s to ITIL based CAB.
