Summary

About the role
We are looking for a Library Premises Assistant (Evenings & Weekends) to join our team. The Taylor Institution Library is one of the University of Oxford’s principal research libraries. It is the centre for the study of modern and medieval European languages and literatures, together with linguistics, world cinema, and women’s studies. Along with the Art Library and Nizami Ganjavi Library, the Taylor Institution Library is part of Section 3 of the Bodleian Libraries’ Humanities Libraries, and the three libraries work together as a group to provide services. You may be asked to provide cover at one of the other two libraries within the section from time to time, or other Bodleian Humanities Libraries in exceptional circumstances.

As a Library Premises Assistant, your focus will be maintaining the security of the building and its operations and assisting with events set up and invigilation. You will be expected to work flexibly across the different library teams and this may include providing evening and weekend cover at the library help desks at times of staffing shortages and assisting with Reader Services tasks as needed.

This is a permanent, variable hours role. The availability of shifts will depend on staffing levels but the postholder will be expected to work one or two evening or weekend shifts per week:

- Evening shifts (Monday to Friday, 16:45 to 19:15)
- Saturday shifts (09:45 to 18:15 with 30 minutes unpaid lunch)

This role requires lifting and carrying boxes of library materials, pushing trolleys, climbing ladders and kick-stools in order to access some of the library’s bookshelves and to re-shelve materials.

About You
You must have experience in dealing with the public and possess good communication skills. You should be able to undertake work of a physical nature and be reliable, punctual and flexible as regards working hours. Previous experience in library work or general security duties would be helpful.

• An excellent contributory pension scheme
• 38 days of annual leave
• A comprehensive range of childcare services
