Summary
Your role
National Highways are looking for an experienced Operations Manager to join our team in Bristol. As part of the role, you'll proactively lead the Regional Operations Centre (ROC), optimising the performance of the strategic road network in the South West.
The role, based in the Regional Operations Centre, is a safety critical role, taking accountability for the resolution of incidents on the network, managing resources, stakeholders and all whilst providing the best possible customer experience.
This is a 24/7 role, with a team of Operations Managers working a shift pattern. You must live within 1 hour commute of the ROC.
- 24/7 operational leadership providing strategic direction and coordination to minimise the impact of planned and unplanned events and incidents on the network, customers and stakeholders.
- Proactively manage the region's network performance against agreed targets and performance indicators and take action to mitigate known risks including planned events and severe weather.
- Act as the National Highways Tactical Commander during critical incidents, enacting National Highways' crisis management plans, enabling safe and effective resolution of network issues and pro-actively engaging with senior management, stakeholders and the media where required.
- Line management of a team of control room operators, taking accountability for their performance and continued development.
- Ownership of projects which impact on the performance of the ROC and wider business.
About you.
- Operationally competent in incident and crisis management; with experience of making and taking accountability for time critical decisions, balancing safety, customer needs and operational challenges.
- Experience of leading and managing high performing teams; demonstrating line management experience, driving best practice and continuous improvement.
- Experience of building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders, third party contractors, external supply chain, media and senior management.
- Experience of project/lead role accountability with demonstrable measured performance and outcome.

External candidates will be offered a starting salary at the lower end of the pay scale, while current employees will be appointed in accordance with our established pay policy.
