Summary
SEN Teaching Assistant | Alternative Provision Secondary School | Derby (DE1) | £105-£115 per day | Long Term Role | Starting September 2025
The Opportunity:
- Join a dedicated team at a specialist Alternative Provision (AP) secondary school in Derby (DE1), supporting students with autism, behavioural challenges, and complex needs who require a more tailored educational environment than mainstream settings can offer.
- This is a long-term, full-time role starting in September 2025, ideal for experienced SEN practitioners looking to make a lasting impact.
- Work closely with the SENCo and class teachers to deliver targeted support.
- Excellent long-term career development opportunities.
- Full-time, Monday to Friday.
- Term-time only role, paid up to £115 per day.
- Based in Derby with good transport links and free car parking.
- Immediate start, with potential for long-term placement.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver tailored support under the direction of the SENCo to meet the needs of pupils with autism and behavioural issues.
- Helping maintain a calm, and structured learning environment using effective behaviour management strategies.
- As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will provide 1:1 and small group support to students with additional needs.
- Help pupils stay engaged in class by adapting resources and tasks as needed.
- Promote inclusion and support students' emotional and academic development.
- Assist students in developing independence, organisation, and confidence.
- Collaborate with teachers and pastoral teams to monitor and adjust interventions
Who We're Looking For:
- A minimum Level 3 qualification (essential).
- Experience working in an Alternative Provision, PRU, or specialist SEN setting (preferred).
- Strong background in supporting students with ASD, SEMH, or behavioural challenges.
- Someone who is proactive, adaptable, and able to step into the role with confidence, ready to make an immediate, positive impact
- Calm, resilient, and empathetic approach to managing behaviour.
- Passion for inclusive education and helping young people succeed against the odds.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Fully committed to safeguarding and promoting student welfare.
