This is a career graded position starting at Grade 4, developing to Grade 5 and reaching Grade 6 on completion of qualifications and experience

Our Payroll Team at the Isle of Wight Council are responsible for ensuring the successful processing of our monthly staff payroll and now we need a positive, enthusiastic and committed Trainee Payroll Officer to join us.

Duties will include.

Pay input and running of Monthly Payroll.
Collecting, validating, and processing large volumes of information to ensure a smooth payroll service.
Providing advice to managers on matters such as salary sacrifice schemes and shared parental leave
Manual calculations of Pay, Tax & NI
Understanding local Terms and Conditions & Policies
Understanding National Statutory Pay Regulations
Helping on Testing Processes and expected pay outcomes.
If successful, you’ll be essential in ensuring the correct payment of salary and statutory and voluntary deductions. It is vital that this work is carried out accurately and effectively so applicants will need to demonstrate the following;

Excellent word processing and numeracy skills
Strong verbal communication skills – able to liaise at all levels
Demonstrable Team working skills
A good eye for detail and a meticulous approach to workloads
Ability to manage work assigned.
The ability to work to strict deadlines in a high performance driven environment.
Previous experience of working in a Payroll environment is desirable.

A minimum qualification of A Levels / NVQ Level 2 Business & Administration / or equivalent are required.
