We're looking for a proactive and compassionate Speech and Language Therapy Assistant to join our friendly and dynamic team at Frenchay Brain Injury Rehabilitation Centre (BIRU).
Frenchay BIRU, part of Active Care Group, is a specialist neurological rehabilitation centre located in Bristol. We provide intensive and expert rehabilitation for adults with a wide range of complex neurological conditions, including traumatic brain injury, stroke, and other acquired brain injuries. As the only Level 1 neurorehabilitation centre in the South West of England, we're proud to offer an interdisciplinary, goal-oriented approach to care that supports people to achieve meaningful and lasting outcomes.
Working under the supervision of our qualified Speech and Language Therapists, you'll play a vital role in delivering high-quality therapy programmes and supporting the smooth running of the SLT service. You'll work closely with patients who have complex communication and swallowing needs, using a range of tools and approaches to make a meaningful difference every day. You'll also collaborate as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team including physiotherapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, nurses, and rehabilitation assistants all dedicated to patient-centred care and recovery.

What you'll be working:
This role is full-time:
- 35 hours per week
- Monday to Friday
- 8.30am to 4.00pm
- 1 year fixed term contract
What you'll be doing:
- Work safely and independently with patients by following treatment plans as delegated by a qualified Speech and Language Therapist
- Run SLT communication groups safely and independently including collecting the patients, following group exercise guidelines, providing motivation to the patients, and completing appropriate documentation
- Support effective communication with patients who have significant speech and language needs following guidance from the SLT team
- Support patients to access appropriate communication therapy tools electronically e.g., via an iPad app
- Participate in joint treatment sessions along with a Speech and Language Therapist, following their guidance to maximise the effectiveness of a patient's session
- Monitor patients' performance / progress, providing regular feedback to the Speech and Language Therapist, making recommendations for review when necessary
- Be confident and competent to independently take patients outside of the unit as appropriate

What you'll have:
- Experience of working with individuals with communication or swallowing difficulties (preferred but not essential).
- A strong interest in rehabilitation and patient-centred care.
- Good organisational and communication skills.
- A flexible, can-do attitude and willingness to learn.
- Successful candidates will be required to undergo an Enhanced DBS
