Head of Health and Safety and CompliancePermanentFull time and 37.5 hours per weekHybrid£57,000 per annum (applies to all, including those under the age of 21)A fantastic opportunity has arisen to join our Property and Compliance department Team as Head of Health and Safety and Compliance.The Head of Health and Safety and Compliance role is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health and Safety and Safeguarding professional to lead a dedicated team of people delivering on all aspects of YHA’s Health and Safety, Fire Safety, Compliance and Safeguarding strategies across our network of fantastic hostels in amazing locations across England and Wales. We’re looking for a confident and visionary leader who will get the opportunity to work closely with and advise senior leaders and colleagues from across the organisation; devise and implement strategy, policies and procedures; and manage our incident response.Why work for YHA?Join our team and enjoy a range of exclusive staff benefits that support your well-being and career growth:10 nights free hostel stays per year for you and up to 3 friends or familyAccess to YHA’s staff discount and cash back portalFree YHA Membership each yearAccess to support via our Employee Assistance ProgramThere are many more benefits to working for YHA so please visit our YHA Jobs website for more information.What will you be doing as a Head of Health and Safety and Compliance?Working with the Health and Safety Compliance Team you will be:You’ll lead our Health, Safety and Compliance strategy addressing the full range of safety risk issuesYou’ll lead our Health, Safety and Compliance team in delivering a high quality, customer centred serviceYou’ll work with our Executive and Senior Leadership Team to develop best practice in health and safety, compliance and security management and provide expert guidanceYou’ll be the Designated Safeguarding Lead and lead on developing the safeguarding policies and proceduresYou’ll provide visionary and strategic leadership, promoting an ethos of high performance and continuous improvement, deputising for the Director of Property and Compliance as requiredWhat Skills and Experience do you need to be a Head of Health and Safety and Compliance?To work as part of the Health and Safety and Compliance Team we are looking for candidates with the following qualities:Qualified to NEBOSH Diploma level or NVQ Level 4/Degree level with evidence of continuing professional developmentProfessional membership of an appropriate H&S body (e.g. IOSH)Qualified to NEBOSH Fire Safety Certificate level as a minimumA H&S professional with experience of developing and embedding focused strategies to deliver organisational objectives, ideally within a multi-site environmentStrong working knowledge of health and safety and fire safety, legislation and best practice with the ability to apply this with a pragmatic and common sense approachAbility to provide vision and strategic direction to othersLeads by example, with experience of leading and inspiring effective teams and a commitment to upholding professional standards and YHA HEART valuesStrong working knowledge of safeguarding with the ability to apply this with a pragmatic and common sense approach.
