Detention Services (DS) is part of Immigration Enforcement (IE) and supports compliance across the immigration system through the detention and removal of individuals who no longer have the right to remain in the UK, and for whom other enforcement approaches have been unsuccessful. DS is responsible for running the immigration detention estate, which comprises of several Immigration Removal Centres (IRCs). We have a responsibility to ensure that men and women in detention are held securely, safely and are treated with dignity and respect.
The Use of force lead is responsible for assuring Use of Force across the Immigration detention estate.
The job holder will be responsible for oversight of Use of Force across the Immigration detention estate and support wider Detention Service Security Team (DSST) operations. Acting as a subject matter expert the job holder will work with Contracted Service Providers and key partners, ensuring that force is applied correctly, and robust oversight/review processes are completed in a timely manner.
Line management responsibilities are attached to this role, the successful candidate will directly line manage one HEO and countersign one EOs.
Duties and activities include but are not limited to:
- Providing expert advice and guidance, acting as a point of contact for Detention Service teams and Contracted Service Providers on issues relating to the use of force.
- Monitoring the performance of contracted service providers. Quality assuring services in accordance with relevant legislation and frameworks.
- Oversee the Use of Force teams workload ensuring timely and accurate delivery.
- Chairing the monthly Use of Force quality assurance meetings, identifying trends and issues.
- Ensure that learning and recommendations are imbedded in practices across the estate.
- Working with key partners to ensure delivery of Use of Force training and undertake assurance of training standards.
- Provide ad hoc support to senior managers in relation to use of force issues.
- Line management responsibilities for the use of force team.
