Summary
We are excited to recruit for an experienced nurse to join our ECMO service on the Adult Critical Care Unit at St. Bartholomew’s Hospital. This post was specifically developed to support patients requiring ECMO care, and to strengthen the provision of critical care services, through delivery of specialist education and training.
The post holder will work alongside the ACCU nursing team either directly or in a supportive capacity and be responsible for teaching, performing competency assessments and providing staff feedback. The role will involve some transfer/retrieval of patients and team management, such as staff appraisal and absence management. During periods of reduced ECMO activity the post holder will work clinical shifts on the ACCU.
The post holder will be expected to contribute to advancing the role and must be interested in facilitating staff development, teaching, and service innovation. The successful candidate will be a clinical expert, have well-developed organisational skills, be flexible within the role and have the confidence to engage and work collaboratively with a range of colleagues, at all levels and from all professional groups.
This post provides a fantastic opportunity for a senior critical care nurse who has an interest in further progressing their career along a clinical, educational or research pathway within the Adult Critical Care setting
The aim of this role is to support patients requiring advanced critical care therapies, including Extra Corporeal Membrane Oxygenation (ECMO). The successful candidate will be a clinical expert, directing care and providing advanced knowledge and skills to ensure the aims and objectives of the critical care and ECMO service are implemented.
The post holder will provide direct supervision and opportunities for staff to achieve and maintain ECMO and critical care competencies required for their role. Along with the lead nurse, the advanced critical care nurse will co-ordinate training and deliver ECMO and general critical care education to nursing, medical and other MDT staff.
As a clinical leader the post holder will play a vital role in the continued development of the speciality through setting standards, implementing SOPs/guidelines, and by undertaking data collection, clinical audit and research, both at a local and national level.
