Fire Safety Practitioners looking for the next challenge - we want to hear from you!
Are you passionate about protecting the public? Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service is looking for inspirational leaders to join us as Managers of our Protection Teams working across Greater Manchester to keep communities safe. HMICFRS has recognised the work we have already done to improve the way we work but we know there is more to do and we are looking for forward thinking and visionary leaders to join us on our journey to 'outstanding'.
We have a number of dedicated Protection Teams to deliver our services and are creating a new team to deliver the Greater Manchester Remediation Acceleration Plan this will build on the work we have already been doing relating to High Rise buildings and expand our offer including an increased focus on resident engagement.
We are seeking highly motivated and proactive individuals who can take the initiative and work well under pressure. As a Protection Manager, you will have the responsibility to lead, plan, organise, manage and monitor planning and service delivery of a range of Protection activities including regulatory enforcement, business engagement and support to communities, businesses and other organisations. You will act as a subject matter specialist and provide advice to colleagues, senior officers and partners in relation to our regulatory and business engagement work and develop, implement and monitor policies, procedures, and training to ensure the safety of the public and firefighters. Ideally you will hold a Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or be working towards to it or have an equivalent qualification from another regulatory discipline.
You will lead and manage a team of Fire Safety Inspectors and work closely with colleagues across the organisation to ensure the development and delivery of activities which improve the safety of communities and the built environment.
About you:
We need leaders who are accustomed to handling demanding workloads in a fast-paced environment able to drive innovation and use evidence to continually improve our services. You should be able to effectively assess risk and make informed decisions, in accordance with all relevant legislation, Government and organisational guidance.
You will have a curious mind and excellent communication skills with a focus on continuous improvement with experience of leading and developing teams in a regulatory environment.
You will have demonstrable experience of working directly with residents and or businesses and be committed to delivering high quality services to our communities.
Ideally you will hold a Level 4 Diploma in Fire Safety or be working towards to it or have an equivalent qualification from another regulatory discipline.
Available roles:
Our Protection Teams work to ensure compliance with fire safety laws and offer advice and support to a wide range of commercial and residential premises. We have changed our delivery model to ensure our Fire Safety Regulators can focus in key areas and now have specialised Fire Safety Teams, including a Risk Reduction Team proactively auditing from our Risk Based Inspection Programme, an Investigations and Enforcement Team who tackle non-compliance, a Technical and Consultations Team who lead on influencing the safety of the built environment and Higher Risk Team who lead on the regulation of high rise buildings, hospitals and other high risk sites.
Our new Remediation Acceleration Team will be working with partners across Greater Manchester and the Homes England Cladding Safety Scheme to ensure blocks of flats with serious fire safety defects are made safe. This will involve managing a multi-disciplinary team and extensive resident engagement.
We have a number of opportunities as we have expanded our Management Team and successful candidates will be offered roles which align to their skills and experience and these may be based anywhere in Greater Manchester. If you do not have a fire safety qualification but are an experienced regulatory practitioner from another discipline we would need you to be able to start your employment with us on the 15th September to complete your first fire safety qualification.
Essential car user allowance is payable for these roles and it is a requirement to have a driving licence and access to a vehicle. As our Protection Managers lead frontline delivery teams these are office based roles with limited opportunities to work from home.
These roles are not conditioned to the Flexible Duty System and are specific to Protection successful candidates who subsequently want to move to another Station Manager role within GMFRS will be required to go through the Promotion Pathway.
