Summary


Exciting opportunity exists for a dynamic registered nurse to join our dedicated team on Cardiothoracic Ward. The ward is situated within the Heart and Lung Centre, New Cross Hospital, and is a 31 bedded in-patient surgical ward. This includes a 4 bedded high dependency area. Admissions are both emergency and elective patients who require surgery for various Cardiac (eg, CABG, heart valve surgery, aortic surgery) or Thoracic conditions ( eg, lobectomy, pneumonectomy, pleurectomy, decortication) .

We are looking for caring, compassionate nurses, preferably with experience, who can demonstrate implementation of the 6Cs, committed to delivering high standards of dignified patient care, who are highly motivated and have excellent communication skills.

A specialist interest in cardiothoracic surgical nursing would be of any benefit; however, transferable experience will also be welcomed.

To provide high quality nursing care and participate in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of the care needs for the patient group.

To deliver compassionate person-centred care, and treat patients, service users, their families and their carers with consideration, dignity and the respect you would want for yourself or your family.

To provide relevant forms of care with minimal supervision and participate in the supervision and teaching and assessment of unregistered or junior staff and students.

To play an active part in the continuing development of the ward or department and contribute to the maintenance of an environment conducive to the delivery of high standards of patient care, by promoting good communication and relationships between staff, patients, relatives and visitors.

Must be able to work a day and night shifts.

To ensuresafe and effectiveclinical practice.

Practice within theNMC Standards of Practice and Behaviour for Nurses and Midwives Adhere to and promote Trust and Directorate policies, procedures and guidelines.

Participate in theassessment of patient care needs, planning, implementing and evaluating programmesof care in accordance with the agreedpolicies and proceduresof The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.

Report on treatment, care, and any concerns, promptly and effectively to senior staff to maintaineffective communicationchannels.

Liaise effectively with themulti-disciplinary teamto ensure timely delivery of care and develop good working relationships.

Take personalresponsibilityfor actions and omissions, and recognise personalaccountability.

Report incidentsand near misses promptly and appropriately and take effective action to minimise future risk.

Critically appraise and synthesis the outcomes of relevantresearch,evaluations and audits and apply the information when seeking toimprove practice.

Enhance the patients experience.

Communicate effectively with patients and relatives to promotepatient/carer involvement, so that they can makeinformed choicesand understand their treatment and planned care.

Maintain aclean and safe environmentfor staff, patients and visitors.

Supportjunior members of staff, unregistered staff and students.

Ensure compliance with legislation, policies and protocols includinghealth and safety, healthcare associated infection prevention,clinical governance, includingrisk managementandcritical incidentreporting androot cause analysis.

Act as apositive health educatorat all times and enable people to maintain the maximum level of independence, choice and control.

Undertake Trust and local competenciesas required.

Attend such courses and trainingas required by the post includingmandatoryupdates.

Recognise personallimitationsand contribute to ownpersonal and professional development including participating in the appraisal and revalidation process.

Support the Senior Sister/ Charge Nursewith E-rostering, ensuring compliance with key performance indicators.

Act as apositive role modeladhering to the expected standards of behaviour.

Contribute to the creation and maintenance of a positive learning environment that ensureseffective learning opportunitiesfor staff and students including appropriate orientation and induction programmes, a range of clinical support strategies(mentoring, coaching, clinical supervision, action learning and peer review).

To ensure effective contribution to the delivery of theorganisation’s objectives. Within clinical areas, ensure knowledge and implementation of the organisation’s quality and safety agenda.

Assist senior staff tomonitor standards of care and contribute tomaintaining quality.

Undertake any other duties as may be requested tomeet the needs of the servicewithin the limitations of the grade.

Demonstrate by self and through designated service areas, compliance to the pledges of the NHS Constitution 2012and local professional strategies.

Promote apositive imageof nursing internally and externally to the Trust.
