Term Time Contracts
This contract offers part-time hours across 37 weeks of the year, primarily during term time. You will be required to work during the academic terms, with some additional duties outside of term time as needed. This structure provides a balance between a part-time role and flexibility during non-term periods.
The Opportunity
As our Café Assistant in our Learning for Living & Work department, you’ll play an active role in the day-to-day running of the Crumbs Café at our Old Mill Lane campus. Reporting to the Café Leader, you’ll be part of a small team focused on delivering a friendly and efficient service to all customers.
Your responsibilities will include preparing and serving food in line with the set menu, whilst ensuring all tasks are carried out in accordance with food hygiene and safety regulations. You’ll be expected to keep the café clean and orderly, working to a structured cleaning rota that covers both the kitchen and customer-facing areas.
You’ll take orders and serve members of the public, handling a variety of food and drink requests. You’ll also be responsible for monitoring stock levels, rotating items as needed, and ensuring shelves and displays remain well-stocked and presentable. Operating a touchscreen till will form part of your daily routine, requiring attention to detail and good customer service skills.
This is a great opportunity if you enjoy working with people, have an eye for detail, and want to be part of a friendly, supportive team. You’ll build your skills in food preparation, customer service, and retail – all while helping to keep the café running smoothly each day.
About You
We're looking for someone friendly, reliable, and happy to be part of an outstanding team. You’ll enjoy chatting to customers and making sure they feel welcome, always aiming to give great service with a smile.
You’ll need to be comfortable working on your feet, taking orders, preparing food, and keeping the café clean and tidy. Being organised and paying attention to the little things will go a long way in this position.
You’ll also be using a touchscreen till and handling money, so being confident with basic maths and technology is also useful. This could be a great role for you if you're someone who enjoys helping others, works well in a busy setting, and takes pride in doing a good job.
This role also requires some flexibility, as you may be asked to work additional hours during busy periods. Any extra hours worked will be paid through timesheet submissions.
Below is a list of some of the key skills, qualifications and experience we are seeking for this exciting opportunity.
Required
• Level 2 qualification in English and maths, or equivalent
• Willingness to work towards a Level 1 Food Hygiene qualification
• Some previous experience in a catering or food service role
• Confident using a cash register or touchscreen till
