JOB SUMMARY
To advance the Christian Faith through spiritually grounded Yoruba traditional drumming, vocal leadership, and guitar performance within the worship life of The Church of the Lord (Aladura). The role involves training designated church members across UK branches in the sacred use of Gangan, Gangan Iya Ilu, Bàtá Omele, voice, and guitar as religious tools of praise and worship. This position is integral to the development of spiritual worship expression, preservation of church music traditions, and raising committed believers through culturally rooted musical practices.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
• Be able to train designated church members in the sacred and liturgical use of any of the following, Gangan, Gangan Iya Ilu, Bàtá Omele, vocal techniques for worship, and/or playing the guitar to accompany Aladura hymns and other spiritual songs.
• Organise and implement music and instrument training sessions across UK branches under the Diocese’s jurisdiction.
• Develop skilled manpower to support zonal churches in praise and worship ministry using traditional Yoruba drumming, vocals, and guitar.
• Collaborate with Choir Directors and Church Music Leaders to integrate drums, vocals, and guitar into worship in line with Aladura doctrine and musical structure.
• Promote spiritual discipline and doctrinal understanding through all forms of music training rooted in the Church of the Lord (Aladura)’s values.
• Work closely with the Diocesan Bishop in designing and implementing music training programmes aligned with church music guidelines.
• Ensure all training content aligns with the Church of the Lord (Aladura) Music Notes, Hymnal, and Sacramental practices.
• Provide regular reports on trainee progress and the effectiveness of instrument and vocal integration into worship services.
• Make informed recommendations on the procurement or upkeep of traditional drums and musical instruments across church branches.
• Perform other spiritual-music duties relevant to this role as assigned by the Bishop or authorised Church leadership.
Person Specification
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience playing and training in one of the following: Gangan, Gangan Iya Ilu, Bàtá Omele, performing as a lead vocalist and/or guitarist in a liturgical Christian context.
• Deep understanding of the Church’s Vision, Mission, Doctrine, and Spirituality.
• Demonstrated experience in performing music during Church of the Lord (Aladura) rites and sacraments.
• Ability to travel to different UK branches for zonal or diocesan training.
• Strong commitment to spiritual growth, confidentiality, and pastoral integrity.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills in a church-based, multicultural environment.
• Skills / Abilities and Experience
• Knowledgeable in Aladura Hymnal and Liturgy.
• Able to relate and communicate at all levels.
• Human resource management and development skills.
• Sound planning and organising.
• Strong ability to work under pressure, to deadlines and with shifting priorities.
