Summary

About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as an Evening & Weekend Supervisor at the brand new Humanities Library in the Bodleian Libraries, opening late September 2025. The Bodleian Humanities Library will hold collections in English language and literature, film studies, history of medicine, internet studies, music, philosophy, and theology and religion. The library will be accommodated in the University’s new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, which brings together seven faculties and two institutes, as well as providing a public exhibition space and performance venues.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in a varied and interesting role. Your duties will include front-line reader services and essential support for readers in using the libraries and collections, and as the Evening & Weekend Supervisor on shift, you will supervise and oversee the work of a team of two library assistants, and act as the senior member of staff onsite.

There are two permanent, part-time roles available, with the following hours required for each post:
1 weekend day (08:50-17:10, inc. 40-minute unpaid lunch break) slot per week
1 weekend evening (17:00-21:15) slot per week
1 weekday evening (17:00-21:15) slot per four weeks

The role involves lifting, carrying and transporting books safely.

About You
We are looking for an enthusiastic, motivated and versatile person to deliver high-quality library reader services, as part of the library’s evening and weekend team.

You will have previous experience of Reader Services work in an academic library, together with a strong customer service focus and enjoyment of working with library readers.

You will have the ability to communicate effectively and to work well as part of a team, as well as experience of training staff.

You will have good general IT literacy, and knowledge of library databases and online resources. Previous experience of staff supervision will be an advantage.
