About the role
This is an exciting opportunity to join the team as a Library Assistant at the brand new Humanities Library in the Bodleian Libraries, opening late September 2025. The Bodleian Humanities Library will hold collections in English language and literature, film studies, history of medicine, internet studies, music, philosophy, and theology and religion. The library will be accommodated in the University’s new Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities, which brings together seven faculties and two institutes, as well as providing a public exhibition space and performance venues.
You will welcome readers and visitors and administer the library’s admissions procedures, respond to enquiries and provide direction to appropriate services. You will undertake a range of duties on front line desks, at all times providing high quality customer service. You will be expected to complete tasks under general direction and to manage and prioritise your own workload on a day to day basis.
There are four permanent, part-time roles available, with the following hours required:
0.285 FTE working pattern (3 posts):
1 weekend day (08:50-17:10, inc 40-minute unpaid lunch break) slot per fortnight
1 weekend evening (17:00-21:15) slot per fortnight
1 weekday evening (17:00-21:15) slot per week
0.12 FTE working pattern (1 post):
1 weekend evening (17:00-21:15) slot per fortnight
1 weekday evening (17:00-21:15) slot per fortnight
Specific days and evenings to be confirmed.
This role requires lifting, moving and carrying books.

You will be able to work well as part of a team, capable of working under pressure, while maintaining care and accuracy when undertaking a range of routine tasks.
